Labor Neighbor: VOLUNTEER for this election’s home stretch!

(Oct. 10) — Labor Neighbor, the Washington State Labor Council’s member-to-member political action program, has had a tremendous response to its first several weeks of “Super Walks” for the general election. Hundreds of volunteer union members have convened each weekend to spend a few hours of their Saturday meeting some of labor’s endorsed candidates, having some fun visiting other union members and talking about this fall’s election, and reconvening with fellow volunteers for a post-walk barbecue.

This Saturday, Labor Neighbor volunteers at Tacoma’s Super Walk will get to meet labor’s endorsed candidate for governor — and movie star Jay Inslee! Candidates will also drop by Super Walk locations in Olympia and Richland to meet and thank volunteers.

In addition, Labor Neighbor continues to conduct weeknight phone banks across the state — including at your home or office, if you like. So please join us!

VOLUNTEER! See the full Labor Neighbor calendar for a list of all of the weekday phone bank opportunities and Super Walks in your area. Phone bank volunteers can call from anywhere. If you have a computer and phone available at your office/home, you can participate in phone banking remotely via a virtual predictive dialing system. Labor Neighbor’s plan for the general election is to conduct fewer, but more intense “Super Walks” in targeted districts — and then have a BBQ. These Super Walks are being held each Saturday through Oct. 20. Every volunteer shift is from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. with snacks/training/pair up at 9:30 a.m., first knock at 10:30 a.m., last knock at 2 p.m., followed by a quick debrief and a BBQ.

The date and location for the walks this Saturday, Oct. 13 are:

OLYMPIA — WSLC/WFSE Bldg. — 906 S. Columbia

RICHLAND — Laborers 348 Hall — 2515 Duportail St.

TACOMA — IBEW 76 Hall — 3049 S. 36th

Labor Neighbor is the Washington State Labor Council’s grassroots union member-to-member political education program. In the primary election season alone, Labor Neighbor volunteers made nearly 130,000 phone calls and knocked on more than 5,000 doors in the primary season. These volunteers explained to fellow union members which candidates support strong working families, a secure middle class, and a better future for our children.

With less than four weeks until this year’s critically important election, volunteers are needed to sign up for Labor Neighbor shifts!
