Ed Murray to speak at WSLC holiday luncheon Nov. 19

SEATTLE — The officers and staff of the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO invite all union members, staff and officers to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season — and the conclusion of the 2014 election — on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at the WSLC’s annual luncheon at the Catholic Seafarer’s Center, 2330 1st Ave. in downtown Seattle.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, who has been asked to share some thoughts about fighting income inequality in Seattle. The WSLC also will be honoring Familias Unidas por la Justicia (Families United for Justice), the new farm worker union in Skagit County that has been organizing workers at Sakuma Brothers Farm.

In addition to the great food and friendly faces, the WSLC hopes to have a wonderful assortment of items for the always-popular raffle. Gift certificates from unionized grocery and retail stores, restaurants and hotels; Mariners, Huskies and Seahawks game tickets; customized union jackets, hats, bags, cups, cruises, personal services, etc. all make terrific raffle gifts. All proceeds go to the Catholic Seafarer’s Center to help them continue their valuable work. If you or your organization would like to donate a prize for the raffle, please contact Janet Hays at 206-254-4912 or 1-800-542-0904 or via email.

The cost to attend the Nov. 19 luncheon is $15 per person with cocktails served starting at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at noon. So mark your calendars and call the Seafarers Center’s Dahra Latham at 206-441-4773 to RSVP.
