MLKCLC bids a fond farewell to David Freiboth
“I did not make this decision without a considerable amount of soul searching,” Freiboth said. “If I have a religion its labor… I believe in collective bargaining and democratic process. I became active in my union, and later in my Central Labor Council based upon those principals. I believe it is consistent with those beliefs that our public institutions should be responsive to all stakeholders in our communities, the labor community being a key component. I have been asked to bring that perspective to the Port of Seattle.”
He added: “I want to express my deepest gratitude to those of you who supported our work during the past nine years I’ve been in office. In addition, our success would not have been possible without the dedicated work of our OPEIU-represented staff. It’s been a privilege representing the affiliates and I look forward to working with many of you as I step into this new and exciting public sector role.”
In accordance with the MLKCLC Constitution, a successor will be chosen to fill the rest of his term, which ends Oct. 31, by the council’s Executive Board.
