Sunrise-to-sunset May Day march in Yakima
“This march is in honor of the dignity of all workers and immigrants in the Yakima Valley,” reads a statement from the May 1st Coalition. “Together, as diverse and vibrant communities, we are asserting our right to a peaceful march in protest of current policies that impoverish and tear families apart.”
The march will start Sunday, May 1 at Radio KDNA in Granger at 4:30 a.m. and stop at Pioneer Park in Toppenish. At 8:30 a.m. the march will restart and travel from Pioneer Park to Lion’s Park in Wapato at 11:30 a.m. From Lion’s Park, it begins again at noon to the 2nd Ave rest area in Wapato, arriving by 2:30 p.m. From there participants will march to Martin Luther King Junior Elementary School in Union Gap. The march will conclude with a Rally at MLK Elementary in Union Gap at 5:30 p.m.
All are invited to participate in the march and/or gather for the rally at 5:30 p.m. There will be festivities there including music, family fun, and community speakers.
