SEATTLE — The Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO will host the Pacific Northwest (PNW) Labor Leader Workforce Development Conference on Oct. 2-3 at the South Seattle College’s Georgetown Campus, 6737 Corson Ave. South in Seattle. Registration is now open.

“This conference is for labor leaders that work in and support workforce development,” said Kairie Pierce, the WSLC’s Lead Workforce Development Director. “If you’re a registered apprenticeship coordinator, a member of a workforce development council, or you serve on a college board or advisory committee, this conference is for you. It’s an opportunity for labor members to learn from each other’s best practices and to provide a space for hard questions to be asked and answered.”

The conference’s keynote speakers include Melissa Wells, Special Assistant to the President of the North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU), and leadership from the Working for America Institute, the workforce development arm of the AFL-CIO.

Panel discussions will include:

●  A deep-dive into registered apprenticeships – traditional, emerging and wrap-around support for apprentices
●  A state-by-state look at how the public workforce system is structured and labor’s key roles
●  Efforts to define “quality job” and bridging the nexus to supporting union careers
●  Leveraging grant opportunities within labor and ensuring accountability in grant partnerships

Speakers are confirmed from across the region, including from Alaska, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming.

Don’t miss this opportunity to convene with PNW labor leaders to learn and share strategies to empower unions to promote worker-centered workforce development.
