WSLC welcomes Ben Brown as its 2024 Legislative Intern
A U.S. Army Veteran and Reservist, Brown is currently a student at University of Washington-Tacoma (UWT), where he got the activist bug. His passion for working families’ issues led him to become more involved with grassroots organizing in the Tacoma and Olympia areas. He now serves as president and primary organizer of UWT’s Progressive Student Union.
“With the PSU, I have led protesting and strike solidarity organizing, as well as hosting speaking events for other social justice advocates,” Brown said. “These efforts have led to more opportunities to get involved in labor and social justice projects, including the UW Building a Movement internship and the Labor Solidarity Project.”
As Legislative Intern, Brown will track bills using spreadsheets, conduct legislative research, attend committee hearings and meetings with legislators, assist with scheduling and minutes for United Labor Lobby meetings, and perform outreach and communication with affiliated unions regarding progress of policy priorities.
“I’m very excited about this great opportunity to work on behalf of the Washington State Labor Council and its affiliated unions, while also furthering my own goals of advocating for workers’ rights and fair labor,” he said.
