Coalition for Change launches campaign advocating for inclusive leadership in Washington’s next administration

SEATTLE, WA (October 18, 2024) — The Coalition for Change officially launched the “All Voices at the Table” campaign this week, an ambitious effort to ensure that Washington’s next Governor appoints a transition team and cabinet that mirrors the state’s rich demographic diversity. The campaign calls for a North Star vision: a Washington where all voices are not only heard but have the power to shape the decisions that impact every resident of the state.

The coalition is demanding that Black, Indigenous, South Asian, Asian Pacific Islander (API), Native Hawaiian, and Latine Washingtonians make up at least 50% of the next cabinet, ensuring that the leadership of Washington reflects the communities it serves. The coalition points out that too many of the state’s most vulnerable populations still face systemic inequities, reflected in disparities in income, healthcare, education, and opportunity.

“Labor has long stood for racial and economic justice, and we know that inclusive governance strengthens our democracy,”said Cherika Carter, Secretary Treasurer of the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO. “Washington’s next governor must lead by example and ensure that their cabinet reflects the full diversity of our state. Representation isn’t just a value—it’s a necessity if we want to tackle inequities that persist. The ‘All Voices at the Table’ campaign is about moving us forward together.”

TAKE A STAND: The Coalition for Change is calling on all Washingtonians to take action by signing on as supporters of the “All Voices at the Table” campaign. By visiting the Coalition for Change website, the public can pledge their support for a more inclusive and representative government. The website will also provide updates on the campaign, upcoming events, and opportunities to get involved.

This is a critical moment to ensure that Washington moves forward with leadership that truly reflects the people it serves.

“The ‘All Voices at the Table’ campaign isn’t just about appointments; it’s about building trust, fostering innovation, and ensuring that the policies we create uplift every Washingtonian,” said Kamau Chege, Executive Director of the Washington Community Alliance.

“True democracy happens when everyone has a seat at the table.”
