Kaiser workers picketing today in Portland

With 30,000 Kaiser healthcare workers on strike in California, PNW workers are calling out Kaiser for refusing to negotiate over the National Agreement for two months

The following is from OFNHP:

PORTLAND, OR (February 9, 2026) — Today, Monday, February 9th beginning at 6:00 a.m., healthcare professionals, union members, and community allies will walk the picket line at Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center. The informational picket is being organized by the Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals (OFNHP, AFT Local 5017, AFL-CIO) as part of our national campaign to win a good contract.

For the past two months, Kaiser has refused to bargain on the National Agreement, leaving thousands of healthcare workers in limbo. OFNHP is a part of the Alliance of Healthcare Unions, a coalition of two-dozen unions and over 60,000 workers who negotiate with Kaiser over our shared National Agreement. While OFNHP members have successfully reached tentative agreements on all local contracts, those agreements cannot be finalized or voted on until a national agreement is reached. Kaiser’s ongoing refusal to bargain nationally has stalled the entire process and created uncertainty for healthcare workers and patients alike. This delay is not about unresolved local issues, but about Kaiser’s unwillingness to engage in good-faith negotiations at the national level.

This picket comes after a year of negotiations and a historic five-day strike of 35,000 Kaiser workers last year, the largest strike of the year. Now, nearly 30,000 Kaiser workers are striking in California and it’s possible that even more, including those in Oregon and Southwest Washington, could strike in the future if an agreement is not reached.

All union members, Kaiser patients, healthcare workers, and community supporters are encouraged to attend. OFNHP members from the affected bargaining units will be available both on the picket and in advance for press interviews.

• The picket line will run from 6:00am-9:00am, 11:00am-1:00pm, and 6:00pm-8:00pm.
