Battle Ground educator reinstated after false allegations

Amanda Gonzales was fired after a parent posted a false claim on social media concerning comments about Charlie Kirk

The following is from the Battle Ground Education Association:

BATTLE GROUND, WA (March 2, 2026) – The Battle Ground Education Association (BGEA) is pleased to announce that Amanda Gonzales, a dedicated educator in Battle Ground Public Schools, has been ordered to be reinstated to her position after being given a letter of probable cause for termination based on a student allegation that she made a negative comment about political figure Charlie Kirk.

Gonzales was fired in October following a social-media storm ignited by a student’s false claim that she made negative comments about Charlie Kirk after he was shot. The student’s mother then posted the false claim on social media, and the post was widely circulated. The situation underscores why strong due process protections and respect for educator rights are essential in our schools.

“Educators deserve fairness, professionalism, and a complete review of the facts before decisions are made about our careers,” said Mary Mendoza-Haensel, President of Battle Ground Education Association. “We are relieved that Amanda will be returning to her students. This outcome shows why due process matters — not just for educators, but for the stability and trust our students and families rely on.”

Ms. Gonzales has been a committed educator focused on supporting student learning and creating a respectful classroom environment. Her students have spoken in her defense, pointing to her willingness to go above and beyond to support their success.

“As educators, we are committed to creating classrooms where students feel safe, respected, and encouraged to think critically,” said Ms. Gonzales. “We need to have professional protections that allow us to do our jobs without fear of premature discipline.”

BGEA is calling on Battle Ground Public Schools to reaffirm its commitment to transparent investigative procedures, timely communication, and respect for collective bargaining rights. When concerns arise, the district must adhere to processes that build trust, protect students, and ensure that educators are treated with dignity and professionalism.
