Celebrate AANHPI heritage month with APALA Seattle

“Solidarities: Black Liberation and Asian American Activism in the PNW” will delve into the communities’ rich tradition of multiracial organizing to build collective power

The following is from APALA Seattle:

SEATTLE, WA (May 7, 2026) — The Pacific Northwest has a rich history of black and brown communities working together towards common goals and fighting against discrimination.  Many of our movements evolved out of student organizations, workers and radical organizations who came together to fight for jobs, housing, healthcare and access to food and relevant education.  Today, with the right wing movement to erase our histories, it is important to remember what brought our communities together, what we fought for, our victories and the resistance we led.

Join Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA) Seattle for our Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month event, Solidarities: Black Liberation and Asian American Activism in the PNW on Saturday, May 9.

Hear from leaders from the Black Panther Party and A Legacy of Equality Leadership and Organizing (LELO) as they share the intersections of Black liberation movements and Asian American activism in the Pacific Northwest, examining how communities have built coalitions and solidarity across racial lines in pursuit of shared justice.

Speakers:

  • Aaron Dixon: Cofounder of the Seattle Chapter, Black Panther Party and the Black Panther Party Legacy Project
  • Mike Tagawa: Member of Seattle Chapter, Black Panther Party
  • Michael Woo: Staff, LELO
  • Cindy Domingo: Board Chair, LELO
  • Tracy Lai: Executive Committee, Seattle Chapter APALA
