Bakery workers to leaflet a dozen grocery stores

Actions are planned from Tacoma to Lynden, informing customers at Safeway and Haggen stores about bakery workers’ ongoing fight for fair pay

EVERETT, WA (September 3, 2026) — Bakery workers at Albertsons, Haggen and Safeway stores in Washington and Oregon are in ongoing bargaining for a contract with living wage increases, reports their union Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers (BCTGM) Locals 9 and 114. Contract negotiations began summer of 2025, with members voting down a company offer that failed to meet wage demands in January of 2026. There have been more than a dozen bargaining sessions since then with little movement.

Bakery workers are asking for community support as they continue to push for a new collective bargaining agreement that includes full retroactive pay back to the expiration of the previous contract in 2025 as well as sustainable wage increases. Some of these bakery workers have not seen wage increases in two years, reports BCTGM Local 9.

Workers are holding leafletting actions in front of Safeway stores covered by their collective bargaining agreements on Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5. In total, 13 actions are planned between Tacoma and Lynden.
