Cannabis workers to rally

Workers at The Herbal Gardens in Tacoma are still fighting for a first contract, nine months after successfully winning their union

TACOMA, WA (September 3, 2026) — Cannabis workers at The Herbal Gardens (THG) in Tacoma are inviting labor siblings and community members to stand with them as they fight for a fair first union contract. As negotiations continue to drag on, workers are planning an action for Friday afternoon, coming together to send a message to management: no workers, no profits, stop the stalling and start negotiating a fair contract.

THG workers joined UFCW Local 367 in January of this year, organizing to gain stability and a sense of security in an industry that has seen rapid change and ongoing uncertainty.

“This was about protecting ourselves and having a real say at work,” said one THG worker in January. “We want stability and respect for the work we do.”

Nine months later, workers are still bargaining for the stability and dignity of a collective bargaining agreement. Top priorities include improvements in wages, better scheduling, and stronger workplace protections. But THG has been stalling at the table, per UFCW Local 367, offering few serious proposals and refusing to compromise on economic issues, leading to little movement in months of bargaining sessions.

“Every dollar THG spends fighting its own employees is a dollar they could have invested in better wages, safer working conditions, and real benefits,” said UFCW Local 367 president Michael Hines in July. “Cannabis workers in Tacoma deserve respect for the care and attention they put into their craft, not union-busting tactics from an out-of-town attorney.”

The cannabis industry is still relatively new in Washington state. THG workers are standing together to raise standards industry-wide and ensure respect, security, and a voice on the job is the benchmark for every cannabis worker.
