‘We Are Here’ walk supporting immigrant families
Join the “collective movement rooted in solidarity, resilience, and the belief that immigrant communities are essential to the social, cultural, and economic fabric of the United States”
GRANGER, WA (September 15, 2026) — Labor and community will gather in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Yakima Valley, embarking on a trek from Granger to Union Gap in support of immigrant families. The “We Are Here” walkathon is a “public demonstration of solidarity, resilience, and hope,” per organizers, raising funds to support immigrant workers and their families.
As participants complete the walk, the We Are Here Celebration will kick off at 12:00 p.m. at FullBright Park in Union Gap, WA. Participants are invited to join for all or part of the walk, join the celebration in Union Gap, or participate virtually.
“We’ve all seen how the federal government is targeting immigrant families. Joining the ‘We Are Here’ walk is a powerful way to express our solidarity and lace up our shoes to materially support our coworkers, neighbors, and loved ones who are under attack,” said WSLC President April Sims. “Washington state’s labor movement is proud to walk side by side with immigrant workers and invites all working people to join us on Saturday.”
From the organizers: “We Are Here is a collective movement of community organizations, labor unions, students, and grassroots leaders rooted in solidarity, resilience, and the belief that immigrant communities are essential to the social, cultural, and economic fabric of the United States. We stand together to defend human rights, protect working families, and ensure our communities are seen, heard, and respected.”
Supporters unable to participate on Saturday are invited to show support through donations, spreading the word, and by purchasing a commemorative t-shirt.
Funds raised during the 25-mile walkathon will help provide emergency financial assistance, support for families facing economic hardship, community resources and referrals, and assistance for workers and families navigating crisis situations.
