‘Laughter Works’ infuses activism with comedy

In February, the Oregon AFL-CIO joined with Laughing Liberally to host a three-day Laughter Works Comedy Tour at Portland’s Helium Club. The idea was to showcase strategies for infusing activism with comedy, and by all accounts the event was a huge success.

The packed house was filled with union and nonunion folks who might not be connected by union cards but are definitely connected by work.

“When people laugh together, when they have a good time together, guess what? They develop a relationship,” said Oregon AFL-CIO President Tom Chamberlain. “That’s what we’re trying to do.”
