Training video explains Weingarten Rights

opeiu-8-steward-video(Oct. 24, 2013) — The role of the shop steward is critical for ensuring that employers adhere to provisions of union contracts and for protecting the individual rights of their fellow union members. One of those important rights, known as your Weingarten Rights, ensures that employees have a right to union representation at management’s investigatory interviews.

The following video, “Weingarten Rights: Training for Shop Stewards,” was written, produced and performed by shop stewards of Office and Professional Employees (OPEIU) Local 8 in Seattle. It was filmed and edited by Kathy Cummings, Communications Director for the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, who is also an OPEIU Local 8 member.
