WSLC Women’s Committee seeks silent auction items

Wslclogo-web(May 30, 2014) — The Women’s Committee of the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, holds a silent auction every year during the council’s annual convention. This auction raises money for scholarships for rank-and-file women to attend various labor-oriented institutes and schools throughout the summer months.

This year, the scholarship fund will be able to send four women to the 33rd Annual Western Regional Summer Institute for Union Women being held in July at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada. This summer school offers a series of in-depth courses, workshops, and other useful information. Prior summer school classes have included leadership development, organizing our unions and community for action, communication strategies, bargaining and effective grievance handling.

The WSLC Women’s Committee is seeking support from the council’s affiliated unions and allied organizations for this worthwhile effort. Donations of any goods or services that can be offered at this year’s Silent Auction are now being accepted. Or, in lieu of such donations, monetary contributions are also being accepted to provide scholarships to union women at next year’s leadership conferences.
