‘Be Union Buy Union’ open house Sept. 4 at IBEW 46 in Kent

be-union-buy-unionKENT (Sept. 4, 2014) — IBEW Local 46 invites all union members and community supporters to an open house for Be Union Buy Union, a new resource to keep consumers in Washington state up-to-date regarding union companies, products and services in the Pacific Northwest and eventually throughout the country. The open house is TODAY (Thursday, Sept. 4) starting at 1 p.m. at IBEW 46, 19802 62nd Ave. South in Kent.

The Be Union Buy Union website includes this statement of purpose:

Whether you are a union member or a pro-union person, take pride in supporting union members by supporting union businesses. When you support a union business you can have confidence that the employees of that company negotiated living wages, benefits and working conditions. When employees participate in negotiating those things our communities thrive and wealth is distributing more fairly. Most of us have very limited bargaining power as one person, but as a group, we are strong.

When workers obtain livable wages, benefits and good working conditions they have a chance to buy a house, support a family, go to the doctor, send children to college and have some kind of retirement — not to mention go on an occasional family vacation. A good job with livable wages, benefits and good working conditions allows workers to have dignity and respect in the work place and in their community.

Be Union Buy Union encourages everyone everywhere to support your community by supporting union shops! Be Union! Buy Union!

The site is in its early stages, and needs other unions in Washington to notify Be Union Buy Union to add more unionized companies and keep the database current. For more information, email Chelsea Nelson or call her at 425-350-3420.
