Protest Ingraham, anti-union group Sept. 21

BELLEVUE (Aug. 22, 2019) — The anti-union extremists at the Olympia-based Freedom Foundation have invited white supremacist and Fox News talking head Laura Ingraham to be their keynote for their annual dark-money fundraiser at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue on Sept. 21. And union members and community supporters plan to be outside to tell the Freedom Foundation and the Hyatt Regency Bellevue that hate has no place in Washington state!

TAKE A STAND — MLK Labor and the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO are encouraging all to attend the protest against Laura Ingraham and the Freedom Foundation from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 outside the Hyatt Regency Bellevue, 900 Bellevue Way NE. See the Facebook event page for details and the RSVP.

The following is a statement by WSLC President Larry Brown:

“Laura Ingraham is what’s wrong with America. This is a woman who has monetized hate speech, enriching herself while mainstreaming the tropes of white supremacy. Ingraham’s toxic bigotry has real consequences. Her words about an immigrant ‘invasion’– part of a deliberate Fox News effort to inflame and divide Americans — were echoed by the domestic terrorist in El Paso.

“The fact that the so-called Freedom Foundation has invited this despicable person to be their guest of honor at the Hyatt Bellevue tells you all you need to know about today’s union busters. They, too, are right-wing extremists who are toxic to our state and nation. Financed by out-of-state billionaires, the sole purpose of the Freedom Foundation is to weaken and defund unions so that working people have less power to demand decent wages and affordable health care.

“These two noxious handmaidens of the wealthy elite deserve each other. But the people of Washington state aren’t buying what they’re selling.”
