Support Edgewater Hotel workers at pickets on Dec. 7

The following is from UNITE HERE Local 8:

SEATTLE — Workers at the Edgewater Hotel have been in contract negotiations for more than six months. The hotel is asking its employees to accept wages below other downtown hotels and refuses to secure their jobs if the hotel is sold. Management has lashed out at workers as they exercise their union rights and has hired private security guards who are stationed throughout the hotel.

TAKE A STAND! — It’s time for Seattle-area labor community to support these Edgewater workers. Please join them and other UNITE HERE Local 8 supporters on an informational picket line at the Edgewater Hotel, 2411 Alaskan Way in Seattle, on Saturday, Dec. 7 from noon to 1 p.m. and from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Get details. ALSO, please sign this pledge not to cross a picket line in the event of a strike at the hotel.

Since 2010, wages at the Edgewater Hotel have not kept up with the cost of living in Seattle, even as the hotel’s revenues have grown by more than 70 percent. In September, the workers voted by a 93 percent majority to authorize a strike.

Please show your support by joining them on Saturday, and signing the pledge not to cross a picket line in the event of a strike.
