SEATTLE (May 5, 2021) — The Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO — which is the largest union organization in the state, representing the interests of 600-plus local unions with some 500,000 rank-and-file members — is currently accepting applications for two staff positions: Executive Assistant to the Secretary-Treasurer and Bilingual Claims Specialist for the Project Help program, which helps injured workers navigate the workers’ compensation system.
Executive Assistant to the Secretary-Treasurer
This position reports to the Secretary-Treasurer directly and works closely with the Executive Assistant to the President.

Workload, Salary and Benefits: This position is hourly, with a 35-hour week, salary $55-$65K/year, DOQ and in accordance with Master Trade Section Agreement of the Office and Professional Employees International Union, No. 8, AFL-CIO. Occasional overtime — including late nights, weekends, and holidays — is required based on organizational needs. We offer an excellent wage and benefit package including medical and pension benefits under the OPEIU 8 staff union agreement.
Bilingual Claims Specialist for Project Help
Project Help is a resource for injured workers, employers, and other interested parties seeking help with Washington State’s workers’ compensation concerns. Injured workers contact this program for help with their vital questions, assistance for quick claims resolution, navigating the claims process and seeking information on industrial insurance. This program provides educational information and guidance to ensure appropriate benefits are received under industrial insurance law.
The WSLC and Project HELP are looking for a full-time Bilingual Claims Specialist to assist in providing services to individuals, including Spanish-speaking workers.
Project Help Claim Specialist is a multi-faceted position; the job duties include:
Job Requirements: Proficient in Spanish and English; excellent communication and listening skills; ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively; excellent customer service skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, ability to work independently as well as with a team; commitment to the principles of organized labor. Security clearance and occasional travel will be required. Familiarity with Washington state’s workers’ compensation system is a plus, but not required as training will be provided.
Workload, Salary and Benefits: 35 hours per week, salary $52-$62K/year, DOQ and in accordance with Master Trade Section Agreement of the Office and Professional Employees International Union, No. 8, AFL-CIO. Full benefit package.
