Tell Murray, Cantwell to finish the job, pass Build Back Better

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 7, 2021) — Washington state is fortunate to have two U.S. Senators who strongly support investing in jobs, families and communities in our state.

Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell demonstrated that commitment when they voted for the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, a transformative investment in roads, bridges, transit, rail, climate change mitigation, electric vehicles, clean drinking water, high-speed internet, resilient transmission lines, and more that will create good-paying union jobs. That historic bill has made it across the finish line and been signed into law by President Joe Biden.

Murray and Cantwell have also voiced their strong support for passage of the second piece of critical legislation America needs: the Build Back Better Act. This is President Biden’s $1.75 trillion budget reconciliation bill that invests in child care, home care, clean-energy jobs, health care, tax fairness, immigration improvements, and support for workers’ freedom to join together in unions.

The U.S. House of Representatives has already passed the Build Back Better Act, but the clock is ticking as the Senate considers revising certain details of the plan. Meanwhile, Senate Republicans have signaled that they will do everything they can to delay, obstruct and block the Build Back Better Act from passing.

TAKE A STAND — We need to send a message to Sens. Murray and Cantwell today! Thank them for supporting the Build Back Better Act, but also urge them to ACT NOW to get it passed in the Senate. Working families can’t afford to wait. Send a message urging our senators to FINISH THE JOB! You can also call 1-844-994-4554 to leave them this message.

In Washington state, the Build Back Better Act will:

●  Deliver the largest investment in child care and early education in history. It will provide access to affordable child care for nearly half a million Washington children, and provide universal, high-quality, free preschool for every 3- and 4-year old in ours state and nation.

●  Address the existential threat of climate change. The Build Back Better Act represents the largest ever single investment in our clean energy economy — across buildings, transportation, industry, electricity, agriculture, and climate smart practices in our lands and waters. In clean energy and in other sectors, it will also strengthen domestic manufacturing and supply chains for critical goods, benefiting American businesses, workers, consumers, and communities.

●  Cut taxes and reduce some of the largest expenses for workers and families. It will make education and job training more affordable and accessible. It will provide nutritious food options for children suffering from food insecurity. It will reduce housing costs and expand housing options. It will expand health care coverage and reduce those costs. It will support families with long-term care needs. It will cut taxes for families and workers.
