Raised in Union, Tricia Schroeder elected to lead SEIU 925

SEATTLE (Dec. 9, 2021) — Members of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 925 elected Tricia Schroeder as the third-ever president of their union.

Schroeder not only lives and breathes union, she grew up there, too — in Union, Washington! Her upbringing in a small rural town where she watched her community struggle inspired her to fight for a better future for all workers.

“I saw hard-working people work themselves to the bone, but not make enough to pay bills or put gas in the car to get to their jobs,” Schroeder said. “Folks went without medical care for on-the-job injuries. I realized that joining together in a union was how everyday people could build power to make real differences in their lives.”

After working as a political and community organizer in Boston, she returned home to Washington state to become SEIU 925’s Political Director and helped build one of the strongest public sector locals in the country. She spent her first years at SEIU 925 with family childcare providers fighting for the right to form a union. She has served as Executive Vice President since 2010.

“I’m proud to raise my kids as part of a union family,” said Schroeder. Her mother, a school bus driver, is an SEIU member.

Schroeder succeeds Karen Hart, who served as SEIU 925’s second president for eleven years. Her term begins January 1, 2022.
