OLYMPIA (Jan. 27, 2022) — More than 800 healthcare workers united in SEIU Healthcare 1199NW at Providence St. Peter Hospital, including nursing assistants, EVS, and dietary workers, will hold an informational picket today (Thursday, Jan. 27) from 1 to 3 p.m. to demand a fair contract that honors their sacrifice, provides equitable pay, and ensures workplace conditions that allow the hospital to recruit and retain quality caregivers.
The workers began bargaining with Providence in May 2021. The workers’ demands include wages that recruit and retain, safe staffing, a voice for non-nurses on staffing committees, and benefit guarantees, which Providence is proposing to take away.
TAKE A STAND — All union members and supporters are invited to show their support by joining these healthcare workers at the informational picket outside the hospital today from 1 to 3 p.m. at 413 Lilly Rd. NE in Olympia. RSVP at the Facebook event page.
What Providence St. Peter healthcare workers are fighting for:
- Wages that recruit and retain. Providence has an opportunity to pay these workers what they deserve but are offering an increase that amounts to less than the cost-of-living increase to almost all of them, and a paltry 2 percent raise to many job classes. Meanwhile, Providence executives give themselves millions in pay and bonuses. It’s time to hold them accountable!
- Safe staffing and a voice for non-nurses on our staffing committees. They are the experts in care and they know what’s best for their patients; they deserve a seat at the table.
- Providence is proposing to take away benefit guarantees from the previous contract. These workers’ tremendous work and sacrifice during a pandemic deserve recognition, not reduced benefits.
