Grab your squad for our 10-challenge obstacle course, and overcome the barriers working women face every day

The following is from the WSLC Women’s Committee:

SEATTLE (Feb. 15, 2022) — Women often face particular obstacles on the job — like sexist attitudes and comments, harassment, and unequal pay. But working women have long been barrier breakers, overcoming these obstacles and claiming our place in the workforce and in the labor movement.

This year, the Women’s Committee of the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO is marking International Women’s Day with a 10-challenge outdoor obstacle course. Each obstacle is designed around the challenges working women face every day. Tackle them all with your Labor Siblings for an afternoon of breaking barriers! So, hit up that group text, grab your squad, and come on down to celebrate the power and resiliency of working women with an afternoon of fun, games, food, and community.

Barrier Breakers: Challenge Course & Community Kickback will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 12 at the Machinists District lodge 751 parking lot, 9125 15th Pl. South in Seattle — rain or shine! Register here. There’s no cost to participate. Instead, attendees are asked to bring hygiene products, particularly menstrual products, to share with our Sisters and Siblings in need. This event celebrates womanhood in its many, complex forms. All are invited, regardless of gender, to join in this celebration.

Event sponsorship opportunities range from $10,000 to $250. All proceeds benefit the Washington Women Labor Leaders in Action leadership program (WLLA), a joint 1-year fellowship program of both the WSLC and the AFL-CIO that aims to recruit, retain, and develop women labor leaders. This is a celebration of womanhood in its many, complex forms. All are invited, regardless of gender, to join in this celebration. And in the spirit of solidarity, union brothers are encouraged to consider volunteering to support this event. Sign up to volunteer!
