WSLC Convention July 19-21 in Wenatchee

Event will focus on pro-union momentum, ‘Building Our Future’

WENATCHEE (July 14, 2022) — Hundreds of union delegates from across the state will gather in Wenatchee next week for the Constitutional Convention of the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, which is the state’s largest union organization and represents more than 600 labor organizations and 550,000 rank-and-file members. The July 19-21 event at the Coast Wenatchee Hotel and Convention Center will be the first annual WSLC convention held in person since 2019, before the pandemic began.

“We are very excited to gather again together in person at such a critical time for organized labor,” said WSLC President Larry Brown. “Unions are more popular than ever right now and many are looking to join together with their co-workers to gain a real voice on the job. The unions that comprise the Washington State Labor Council need to be laser focused on helping them organize to build a better future.”

At the 2022 WSLC Convention, delegates representing unions from across the state will hear from distinguished labor and political leaders — including UNITE HERE International President D. Taylor, Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson, and King County Executive Dow Constantine — plus panels and educational workshops focused around the theme of “Building Our Future,” examining the issues and challenges facing unions and working people today.

“The unions of the Washington State Labor Council have supported and advocated for working people throughout this pandemic, meeting the needs of workers in the moment and building power for all working people,” said WSLC Secretary Treasurer April Sims. “Now we need to double down so we can grow and strengthen Washington’s labor movement moving forward.”

Delegates will consider the resolutions that are a key part of the WSLC Convention and the organization itself. It is through the debate and passage of these resolutions that WSLC positions and policies are established. Delegates will also be voting on which candidates have earned the WSLC’s recommendation for election, supplementing the endorsements already made at the WSLC’s COPE Convention in May.

The Tuesday and Wednesday morning plenary sessions of the WSLC 2022 Convention will be broadcast by TVW and livestreamed beginning at 9 a.m. on the WSLC’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

Delegates, alternates and guests attending the convention can find the tentative agenda, COVID safety protocols, and all of the other information they need on the WSLC’s Convention page.
