Camas educators reach TA; strike may end

CAMAS, Wash. (Sept. 7, 2023) — After six days on strike, the 450 Camas Education Association members could be in classrooms with their 7,300 students before the end of the week. Negotiating teams from CEA and the Camas School District came to a tentative agreement on Wednesday night after months of intense negotiations.

Teachers have taken to the picket line since Monday, Aug. 28, the scheduled first day of school. After six days on picket lines, the district and the educators were able to make an agreement on class sizes, equitable funding for student programs, and teacher cost-of-living adjustments. Negotiations began in May.

The CEA members will now vote on whether to ratify the agreement. If approved by 50 percent-plus-one of the membership, the educators will return to work. If rejected, members will return to the picket lines.
