IBEW to picket Auto-Chlor

Workers picketing Auto-Chlor as NLRB seeks to prosecute company

SEATTLE, WA (September 3, 2024) — The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 46 has been assisting workers at Auto-Chlor as they seek to form a union for over two years. Throughout the process it is alleged that the employer engaged in certain illegal acts including discrimination, mistreatment, interrogation, threats, surveillance, maintaining unlawful work rules, and denying its employees union representation when requested. As a consequence of the employers’ anti-worker actions, the regional office of the National Labor Relations Board is undertaking litigation seeking prosecution of Auto-Chlor management related to unlawful treatment of employees.

“We are tired of the always increasing workloads, pressure to get more done with less, more and more time away from our families, and not being compensated at market value for our skills and the profits we bring to the company,” said Dametrius Ballarad, an Auto-Chlor Technician.

As the NLRB process continues, the workers are stepping up the pressure on the company.

TAKE A STAND — In response to the ongoing treatment of Auto-Chlor employees, the IBEW will be conducting a series of picket lines at company locations in Kent (6840 S. 196th Street), Tacoma (9520 Front Street S) and Everett (2310 112th St. SW). Community members are encouraged to join September 3rd from 3PM – 5:30PM, September 4th 6:30AM – 9:30AM and 3PM – 5:30PM, September 5th 6:30AM – 9:30AM.

Additional picket times and locations coming soon.
