Marlene’s Market workers voting Friday on union
Make a solidarity pitstop by the Tacoma store today to share your support for the workers’ organizing drive
TACOMA, WA (February 20, 2025) — Organizing your workplace is no easy feat. It’s hard work, both physically and mentally. But thousands of workers take on the challenge every year, including the workers at Marlene’s Market & Deli in Tacoma who will vote Friday whether to join UFCW 367.
As previously reported in The STAND, workers at Marlene’s — a longtime, beloved local spot — began organizing when the business was purchased by Lassen’s Natural Foods & Vitamins, a California chain.
Workers contacted UFCW Local 367 after experiencing numerous changes implemented by Lassen’s, including reduced store hours, decreased paid time off, eliminated holiday pay, and changes to healthcare benefits. The union also reports that workers have received very poor communication, lack of support, and inadequate training on new systems introduced by Lassen’s.
Their union drive is culminating this week, finally voting Friday on their union. As the workers shore up support heading into the vote, solidarity from the broader labor community is essential.
TAKE A STAND: UFCW 367 is calling on all supporters to make a solidarity pitstop by Marlene’s Market & Deli in Tacoma today (or if you can’t make it, tomorrow) and let workers know that you support them.
Grab a couple items you forgot you needed for dinner tonight and make sure the workers know they’ve got support from the community.
