AFL-CIO launches workers’ week of action

Actions timed for the congressional recess call on elected officials to do their jobs and stand with workers

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 17, 2025) — The AFL-CIO has called a national week of action during the congressional recess, mobilizing working people to collectively stand against the federal administration’s attacks on workers and our basic American rights. While members of Congress are in-district, working people will be hitting the streets, flooding phone lines, and filling email inboxes, calling on elected officials to do their job and stand up for working families.

The AFL-CIO week of action is organized around several demands for Congress: fight for our federal workforce protections and collectively bargained rights; stop Musk and DOGE from illegally gutting and eliminating federal agencies; stop DOGE taking a wrecking ball to programs workers depend on like Social Security and Medicare; and make the NLRB function independently again, among others.

Billionaires and anti-worker politicians think there are no guardrails, that there is nothing and no one to hold them accountable. But working people have a say; this week is an opportunity to combine our voices into a crescendo that can’t be ignored.

Up first this week is a call action for congressional representatives, urging our elected officials to fight for working families, to defend Social Security, Medicare, and our USPS, and safeguard workers’ rights.

TAKE A STAND: Tell Congress, do your job and stand up for workers! Make a call now

Working people will also gather across Washington on March 23 for rallies to defend the USPS, organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers. Locations and details on their website.
