APWU Postal Service day of action

Today, stand with postal workers defending the USPS from a hostile takeover by an anti-worker administration

BURIEN, WA (March 20, 2025) — The American Postal Workers Union has called a day of action to defend the U.S. Postal Service, with workers hitting the streets nationwide today to protest attempts to strip the Service for parts. With an unelected billionaire on an ideological crusade to remake the federal government, postal workers are standing up for this essential service that connects working people in communities all across the U.S.

In Washington State, APWU is rallying in the Tri-Cities and West Seattle in the morning, and in Burien, Spokane Valley, and Tacoma this afternoon.

U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has recently signed an agreement with the so-called Department of Government Efficiency to strip 10,000 jobs from the postal service.

In a statement, the APWU rejected the proposal: “There is no legitimate role for DOGE in the USPS or any other Federal agency…Our collective bargaining agreement is between the APWU and the Postal Service. Any effort by DOGE, or any other entity, to weaken our union rights or target our contractual protections and working conditions, will be met with immediate and sustained resistance by postal workers.”

Privatizing the postal service, or restructuring it to maximize profits not quality service, would deprive communities across the U.S. of an affordable, reliable service. That loss would be felt most acutely in rural areas, where private companies rarely operate; they’d need to charge an exorbitant amount in order to turn a profit. Meanwhile, USPS remains one of the most affordable ways to send mail and packages, and working families rely on postal workers for medication, essential supplies, and ballots — not to mention letters from loved ones.
