Fighting for a fair contract at Tacoma Power

IBEW Local 483 is holding a Labor Action Day today, escalating their fight for a fair contract after months of bargaining

TACOMA, WA (March 25, 2025) — Utility power workers organized with IBEW 438 are holding informational pickets in front of the Tacoma Municipal Building and Tacoma Power today as their contract negotiations drag on.

The current contract expires March 31. Despite bargaining for 18 months with the City of Tacoma and Tacoma Power, workers have still not been able to secure an acceptable agreement. In an update posted to the IBEW 483 website on Saturday, the negotiating team reported meeting with the employer for four hours Friday night. While some progress was made, the two sides remain far apart on certain key issues including wages.

With the contract expiration only days away, IBEW Local 483 is calling on the labor community to stand in solidarity with Tacoma Power utility workers and demonstrate Tacoma’s strong support for union workers as the members continue to press for a strong contract.

TAKE A STAND: Join IBEW Local 483 electricians for an informational picket today, Tuesday, March 25 from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the Tacoma Municipal Building (747 Market St, Tacoma, WA 98402).

Utility workers also picketed in front of the Tacoma Power main campus early this morning.
