All out for May Day

Labor and community will rally in Seattle and elsewhere in Washington to defend immigrant families and denounce Trump’s attacks on working people

SEATTLE, WA (Updated April 25, 2025) — In the face of escalating attacks on working people, organized labor is turning out en masse for actions on International Workers Day, commonly known as May Day. The largest rally, in Seattle, is organized by a coalition of immigrants rights and community groups, supported by local labor. As attacks on immigrant workers and the rights of all workers escalate, organizers are calling all working people to the streets.

“Labor is answering the call,” said WSLC President April Sims. “When our union siblings are ripped from their families and detained, when our rights to free speech and protest are under attack, when immigrant families are targeted, and when billionaires try to gut our public institutions and deny us our rights, all working people must come together to fight back. When you come for one of us, you come for all of us.”

Seattle’s action is in support of a suite of demands, including defending federal workers and the right to organize and defending immigrant workers and families, including a call to close the for-profit, private Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma as well as the release of union siblings Lelo and Lewelyn and all those detained and separated from their loved ones.

TAKE A STAND: Seattle May Day will convene at Cal Anderson Park at noon on Thursday, May 1 with a rally and speaker program before the march. Further details can be found on the event website, and attendees can RSVP here.

More labor actions are planned statewide. This post will be continuously updated as details are confirmed. (Is your union or council hosting or sponsoring a May Day event? Send the details to the The Stand’s Editor at stucker@wslc.org).
