Philippines labor solidarity & APALA Convention

As AANHPI Heritage Month comes to a close, join APALA Seattle for upcoming events to learn more about their rich history of organizing

SEATTLE, WA (May 28, 2025) — APALA Seattle, the local chapter of the AFLCIO constituency group Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, is hosting two upcoming events offering opportunities to learn more about the rich histories of organizing in AANHPI communities and the ongoing fights for justice they are engaged in.

First, on Saturday, May 31, join APALA Seattle Chapter as members report back on their recent 10-day delegation to the Philippines, where they met with labor leaders, union members, and community organizers. This is an incredible opportunity to learn about the ongoing labor struggles in the Philippines, the rich history of worker organizing, and how global solidarity strengthens movements at home. All are invited to connect, learn, and celebrate the enduring contributions of AANHPI communities to the fight for justice. APALA will also be hosting a fundraiser at this event to help raise money for delegates to attend National APALA’s 18th biennial convention.

APALA Seattle is also inviting fellow union members to join them at National APALA’s biennial convention, held this year in Los Angeles. If you are interested in attending, contact APALA Seattle Lead Organizer Amy Leong, apalawa@gmail.com.

For APALA, this year’s theme reflects the urgency of the moment: “Solidarity. Resistance. Unity.” It’s a call to stand together to fight for a shared vision of the world, calling us to be strategic, vocal, and engaged as we push back against the attacks on workers, immigrants and democracy, while we also build a strong and diverse coalition to win.

The 18th Biennial Convention will feature firsthand stories of how the Project 2025 agenda is upending the rights and lives of workers and communities across the country. Attendees will learn the skills to advocate for one another and move others to action, as well as celebrate APALA’s many achievements since its founding in 1992. Convention will also continue APALA’s long tradition of strengthening global solidarity, building on deepening relationships with pro-democracy labor coalitions in the Philippines.
