TAKE A STAND!
Rally for detained union members and fellow Filipino immigrants
Community and Labor will rally together today at the NW Detention Center, calling for the release of Brother Maximo Londonio, Sister Lewelyn Dixon, and all those detained at the privately-run facility
TACOMA, WA (May 23, 2023) — Supporters will gather in front of the NW Detention Center (NWDC) in Tacoma today from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., calling for the release of union members Maximo Londonio and Lewelyn Dixon, for the release of their fellow detainees, and for accountability and action from the Philippines Ambassador to the United States, Jose Manuel Romualdez.
On May 20, Maximo Londonio, a Filipino green card holder and member of IAM Local Lodge 695, was taken by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to NWDC, after being held for nearly 4 full days by Customs and Border Protection at the Sea-Tac airport. Lewelyn Dixon, or Aunty Lynn, is a member of SEIU Local 925 and also a green card holder; she has been held at NWDC since March.
Brother Max and Sister Lynn — who have both lived in the U.S. for decades — are among many Filipino immigrants who have been detained and held in ICE facilities in recent months. Today’s rally, hosted by Tanggol Migrante Network WA and other community action groups, is part of a National Day of Action called in support of detained Filipino immigrants.
Members of Londonio’s union, IAM Local Lodge 695, will also be in attendance, calling for Brother Max’s release.
TAKE A STAND: join the rally today, Friday May 23, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the NWDC (1623 East J St., Tacoma, WA). Labor supporters are encouraged to wear their union colors.
