Seattle educators reach tentative agreement

Deal comes on the heels of a massive rally uniting educators across the district

SEATTLE, WA (June 16, 2025) — The Seattle Education Association bargaining team announced Saturday that a tentative agreement had been reached with Seattle Public Schools after hundreds of educators gathered together on Friday in front of the John Stanford Center for Educational Excellence.

While details of the TA are not publicly available at this time, educators had been pushing for contract improvements to leave, wages, safety, and staffing. Contract agreements are typically come to in August or September, but this year bargaining began in May, with the SEA bargaining team working hard to secure an agreement on a one-year contract extension before the end of the school year to offer some certainty for educators.

At Friday’s rally, educators shared their priorities in a sea of red shirts covering the lawn in front of the John Stanford Center. Chanting “Fair schools, fair pay, and no take aways,” educators shared their determination to fight for fair wages, with some speaking about the need to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. Others focused on the need to fight for a strong contract, so they could show up fully for their students. Bargaining team members shared their appreciation for their fellow members for gathering together to show the strength of their solidarity.

The tentative agreement is still to be voted on by membership in the coming weeks.
