How to support SEIU sibling detained in San Antonio

SEIU 925 is calling for the Moreno Forero family to be released and returned to Washington

SEATTLE, WA (July 7, 2025) — Nicolle Forero, a mother, a child care provider, and SEIU 925 member was detained by ICE on June 18 and sent to a detention facility in Texas, along with her husband, Sebastián Moreno, and their two small children, Juan and Daniel Moreno Forero. The family are asylum seekers from Colombia who were taken from a routine court check-in.

This is an extremely urgent life-or-death situation for Nicolle’s six year old son Juan, who has a serious health condition and was being treated at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Nicolle’s union reports that she was just days away from opening her own licensed in-home child care business. Nicolle’s husband Sebastián recently completed all the necessary training to be an aide in her child care program because they saw a need in the community and stepped up to fill it. Now, families that had been counting on Nicolle for child care are left scrambling to find other options.

Beyond the immediate threat to their safety and to Juan’s health, the family’s absence highlights the community-wide impact of detaining child care providers in the midst of a nation-wide child care crisis which has left many working families struggling to find trusted providers and affordable care.

SEIU 925 is calling for the Moreno Forero family to be immediately released and returned to their community in Washington state where Juan can access life-saving medical care. The family has legal representation, who have submitted a bond motion for their release.
