Pierce County Labor Council Labor Day Picnic: Celebrate Worker Wins and Build People Power
TACOMA, WA (August 25, 2025) —The Pierce County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO invites you to join a community picnic filled with food, guest speakers, live music, and solidarity for Labor Day, September 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fort Steilacoom Park.
Throughout our history, the labor movement has had the vision to imagine a life for working people that didn’t exist yet, and the will to make it happen. When we fought for an eight-hour workday, they said it was impossible. When we demanded health and safety standards because our jobs shouldn’t kill us, they said the bosses would never give in. But our solidarity—our collective power—made it real.
Today, that vision is shared by the American people. More than 70% of Americans, and nearly 9 in 10 young people, say they support unions. Across the country, workers are rising up: in the streets and on the shop floor, in union halls and in Congress, demanding freedom, fairness, and security.
This year’s picnic is a chance for the community—union and nonunion—to come together to celebrate worker wins and build the people power to stand up for democracy.
