District files injunction in Moses Lake educator strike

Moses Lake Education Association denounces the District’s choice to go to the courts rather than negotiate a compromise

MOSES LAKE, WA (December 4, 2025) — Moses Lake educators are on their fourth day on the picket line, fighting for a contract that ensures good working and learning conditions in Moses Lake schools. Yesterday, the Moses Lake School District filed for an injunction to compel educators off the strike line and back into classrooms. Educators are eager to get back to teaching, but they’re holding the line because the school district won’t bargain in good faith, per the Moses Lake Education Association (MLEA).

MLEA educators are actively engaged in bargaining, giving the district their latest contract proposal on Tuesday. In a Facebook post, the union denounced the district’s choice to file an injunction instead of negotiate a compromise to get educators back in the classroom.

“Today, MLEA members walked the picket line while our bargaining team sought even more creative ways to compromise with the district for a fair contract that prioritizes students and educators. At the same time, Supt. Lewis, district admin and the school board filed paperwork to take us to court,” wrote the union. “This action, combined with their unwillingness to bargain in good faith and demonstrated efforts to tell half truths and mislead parents and community, show their lack of respect for the educators who work directly with students, and their true values.”

“They’d rather spend money on high-priced lawyers and court fees than settle a fair contract with us,” the post continued.

The MLEA are actively engaged in bargaining, giving the district their latest contract proposal on Tuesday. While they await a response from the district, educators used their strike line as a food drive, with educators, parents, students, and community members coming together to donate thousands of pounds of food to a local food bank.

As they continue to hold the line for a collective bargaining agreement that retains and attracts skilled, experienced educators to Moses Lake, educators are asking supporters to call on the district get serious and bargain in good faith.

TAKE A STAND: Urge Moses Lake School Distric Superintendent Carol Lewis to settle a fair contract with MLEA educators now.
