Union nurses call for solidarity with organizing healthcare workers

KALISPELL, MT (January 14, 2026) — Nurses at Logan Health in Kalispell, Montana, members of SEIU Healthcare 1199NW, are standing in strong support of Logan Health physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants in their effort to unionize through the Union of American Physicians & Dentists.

In a public letter, the nurses emphasized that providers’ ability to organize and advocate for fair working conditions is directly tied to the quality and safety of patient care across the Flathead Valley.

“These dedicated professionals are the backbone of our healthcare system,” the nurses wrote. “Their ability to advocate for fair working conditions directly impacts the quality of care every patient receives.”

The nurses highlighted that unionization is about more than wages or contracts; it is about creating working conditions that allow providers to focus on what matters most: patient health. Reasonable schedules, safe staffing levels, and a voice in decision-making help reduce burnout, improve morale, and ultimately lead to better, safer care for patients.

“A union gives providers the tools to fight for policies that prioritize patient safety, adequate resources, and sustainable practices in hospitals and clinics,” the letter states. “These changes benefit entire communities by ensuring care remains high-quality and accessible.”

Logan Health nurses are urging the broader Flathead Valley community to stand with providers during this critical moment and to recognize that supporting unionization of healthcare workers is an investment in the future of healthcare in Montana.

To the Public,

We stand in strong support of Logan Health physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants in their effort to unionize with the Union of American Physicians & Dentists (UAPD). These dedicated professionals are the backbone of our healthcare system, and their ability to advocate for fair working conditions directly impacts the quality of care every patient receives.

Unionization is not just about wages or contracts. It is about creating an environment where providers can focus on what matters most: patient health. When providers have reasonable schedules, safe staffing levels, and a voice in decision-making, they are better equipped to provide attentive, thorough, and compassionate care. Reduced burnout and improved morale mean fewer mistakes and more time for patients.

Supporting providers in this effort is supporting better healthcare for all of us. A union gives providers the tools to fight for policies that prioritize patient safety, adequate resources, and sustainable practices in hospitals and clinics. These changes benefit entire communities by ensuring that care remains high-quality and accessible.

We urge you to stand with the providersin this important moment. Share your support, speak out, and help create a healthcare system where both providers and patients thrive.

Together, we can make a difference.

Sincerely,
SEIU Healthcare 1199NW Nurses at Logan Health
