CalPortland drivers on strike in DuPont

Teamsters Local 313 is putting out the call for support for striking drivers holding the line for a fair contract with CalPortland

DUPONT, WA (April 29, 2026) — Drivers organized with Teamsters Local 313 are on strike against CalPortland concrete company’s Glacier NW, holding the line since they walked off the job on April 1. Workers kicked off an unfair labor practice strike after more than a year of negotiations on a new contract. Their previous contract expired on March 31, 2025.

“Glacier Northwest’s drivers are standing together for the fair wages and respect they have earned,” said Nick Lansdale, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 313. “Rather than bargaining in good faith, the company has put forward proposals that deepen inequality and undermine the livelihoods of hardworking Teamsters in Pierce County.”

Workers’ main contract demand is to fix the significant wage and benefit disparities between drivers in DuPont and CalPortland drivers working in King County. Despite similar jobs — and working only a couple dozen miles away — the company is refusing DuPont workers’ proposals to bring their wages and benefits closer to the standards already in place just one county over.

Since the strike began at the start of the month, CalPortland has only met with the union bargaining team once. What’s more, the company has brought in scab drivers, a union-busting decision condemned by Local 313.

“Using scab drivers and union-busting tactics is an insult to the men and women who have helped keep this company moving,” Lansdale said. “Our members are united, and they will remain on the line until this company comes to the table with a serious proposal.”

In a statement, John Silver, a 7-year employee, shared: “The fact that CalPortland would bring in scabs just proves the value we provide to this company and reaffirms our decision to go out on strike. All we are asking for is to be treated with the same respect and fairness that CalPortland treats drivers who live an hour away from us. We are ready to stay here as long as it takes to get a fair contract.”

While drivers stay strong on the line, Washington’s labor movement is backing them up.

“It’s unacceptable that management refuses to agree to fair terms,” said WSLC President April Sims. “650,000 union workers across Washington state stand with our Teamster 313 siblings as they hold the line for the fair pay they have earned.”

Teamsters Local 313 continues to push the company to resume good-faith negotiations and bargain a fair agreement that recognizes the value of workers’ labor and their dignity as working people.
