UFCW 367 grocery workers secure tentative agreement

Fully recommended agreement includes strong staff language, contract alignment between some counties, and wage increases

TACOMA, WA (July 9, 2025) — The bargaining team representing thousands of grocery workers in Pierce, Mason, Lewis, Thurston, Pacific, and Grays Harbor counties has reached a tentative agreement with Kroger and Albertsons, announced UFCW Local 367 on Tuesday evening.

The agreement includes wage increases and benefits consistent across all counties, addressing a long-held member concern with pay disparity, according to a post on the union’s social media. Workers will also receive some retroactive pay. Per the union, the tentative agreement also includes the strongest staffing language in the Pacific Northwest that amounts to industry-leading protections against short-staffing. And it would require management to meet with the union within 10 days if safety concerns are raised by workers.

In a step forward for collective power, the tentative agreement also aligns contract expiration dates between Pierce, Mason, and Thurston counties, covering the bulk of UFCW Local 367-represented grocery workers. Those workers would be able to stand together in future contract negotiations, giving the workers more leverage at the table.

The tentative agreement was secured through a member-led bargaining strategy that featured open bargaining sessions, a first for UFCW Local 367. The bargaining team encouraged all members as well as labor and community supporters to show up to those sessions, making sure management knew Washingtonians stood with the workers. In June, workers voted by 97% to authorize a strike if the employers refused to agree to a fair contract.

The tentative agreement will now go to a vote of the membership. Voting is expected to begin on July 17 with in-person voting, and continue with online voting until July 20.
