STATE GOVERNMENT

UW mobilization Nov. 9 to Defend Education for the 99%

As the possibility of further cuts to higher education looms, University of Washington students, campus unions, parents and faculty are coming together to demand that decision-makers serve the needs of the entire community, rather than the needs of the few.

On Wednesday, Nov. 9, join in a campus-wide mobilization to Defend Education for the 99%! There will be a march and rally starting at 12:30 p.m. in the Quad, a teach-in at 4:30 p.m. in Bagley 154, and an action on The Ave at 6 p.m.

Decision-makers have used the economic crisis in recent years to erode state support for institutions like UW.  Now we’re witnessing a paradigmatic shift that affects not only those who work and attend school, but the entire community.

  • Tuition and fee hikes do not serve the 99%
  • Cutting staff positions and benefits does not serve the 99%
  • Compromising research programs does not serve the 99%

Join students, workers, faculty and alumni to demand that the state spend our money on education and essential services for the 99% — not tax breaks for the 1%. (Learn more about tax breaks.)

As the wave of protests against Wall Street has reminded us, there’s money out there to fully fund higher education and other essential state services.  For this day of action join students, workers, faculty and alumni to demand that the state spend our money on education and essential services for the 99% — not tax breaks for the 1%.
