Don Briscoe of PTE 17 passes away; services Saturday

Longtime labor activist and social justice champion Don Briscoe passed away at home on Monday, Jan. 30 after a short bout with cancer.

Briscoe advocated for members of Professional & Technical Employees Local 17 for 20 years as both a Union Representative and Legislative Director. He initiated and helped create the WSDOT Joint Apprenticeship program to train young people to be engineering technicians and mentored young men in urban high schools in the Seattle area through his work with the Breakfast Group.

Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1634 19th Ave. in Seattle.

Don’s family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to “The Donald Briscoe Legacy Scholarship Fund”, in care of the Breakfast Group:
