Members of UFCW Local 21, USNU Local 141 OK merger

The membership of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 21 has voted overwhelmingly (by 96%) to approve a merger with the 3,400-member United Staff Nurses Union Local 141 UFCW. Earlier in May, Local 141 members voted (by 95%) to approve the merger, which will take effect July 1, 2012.

UFCW 21, Washington state’s largest private sector union, will grow to more than 42,000 members as a result of the merger. This will continue to build strength for negotiating and enforcing contracts, and to raise the voice of working people in the halls of government.

UFCW 21 members work in jobs in grocery stores, retail, health care, meat processing, and other industries. UFCW 21 is a chartered member of UFCW International with over 1.3 million members, and an affiliate of the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO.
