Rally Thursday in Bellevue to demand immigration reform

BELLEVUE — Women and their families will gather in downtown Bellevue on Thursday, Nov. 7 to demand House Republicans take immediate action and pass a comprehensive immigration law that treats women and children fairly. The action is one of 10 coordinated actions taking place across the country.

Women are taking to the streets to show Republicans that there is an urgent demand from their constituency to pass fair immigration reform now. Women and children make up three quarters of all immigrants, and they bear the brunt of the failures of our current immigration system. The Senate acted, the White House is urging action, and now it is up to House Republicans to do their part to keep families together.

NYT-immigration-women-13Sep12The women are building on momentum from the Sept. 12 civil disobedience in Washington, D.C., in which 105 women — 25 of whom were undocumented — were arrested while protesting the House of Representatives’ inaction on immigration reform. The powerful protest inspired Seattle and Bellevue women to increase pressure on Republican Representatives, calling on the party to stop blocking comprehensive immigration reform from moving forward.

TAKE A STAND! Rally with immigration activists, community leaders, faith leaders, leaders of national organizations, impacted women and families who are fighting for action on comprehensive immigration reform in the U.S. House. Meet Thursday, Nov. 7 at 9:30 a.m. at Downtown Park, NE 1st St. & 102nd Ave. NE, in Bellevue.
