Rally to support ABHS workers March 20 in Chehalis, Spokane
In the wake of the strike at Behavioral Health Resources that ended Monday, a second group of human services workers goes public with solidarity events on Thursday, March 20, 2014, in Spokane and Chehalis. The workers at American Behavioral Health Systems (ABHS) who provide substance-abuse treatment have hit a brick wall in contract negotiations between ABHS management and the employees’ union, the Washington Federation of State Employees/AFSCME.
The union reports that ABHS has proposed these safety-net workers get no pay increase and shoulder the entire cost of all health insurance increases. The workers are also concerned about unsafe staffing levels, which can impact surrounding communities.
TAKE A STAND! Union and community members who support living wages, affordable health care, and fair and safe working conditions are encouraged to join these employees as they rally from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday outside two ABHS facilities:
CHEHALIS — 500 S.E. Washington Ave.
SPOKANE — 12715 E. Mission Ave.
