Week of ‘Black Friday’ events slated at every Walmart in state

walmart-walkout-lynnwood(Nov. 21, 2014) — During the week of “Black Friday” holiday shopping, OUR Walmart, community supporters and organizations are collectively planning to have an action at each of the 64 Walmart stores in Washington state. These are part of a nationwide series of actions that will showcase how widespread the call for change at Walmart is. Actions have already begun in some places across the nation and will take place in Washington state starting Monday, Nov. 24 and continue through Black Friday, Nov. 28.

The message from each community is a message of support for Walmart workers who work for the largest employer and the wealthiest family in the U.S., but who still struggle to make ends meet. The actions call on Walmart to provide workers with fair pay for hard work, full-time hours, respect, and to end the retaliation against workers who speak out for an improved workplace.

Most Washington actions are already scheduled and details are available online at BlackFridayProtests.org. For information about actions at store locations not yet listed on that page, check back for new additions in the coming days or email UFCW 21’s Tom Geiger, who is providing technical and media support for OUR Walmart and Making Change at Walmart.

TAKE A STAND! You can make your voice heard and show your support for Walmart workers by signing a petition to the Walton family, who owns Walmart, is the richest family in America, with nearly $150 billion in wealth and as much money as 43% of America’s families combined. Tell the Waltons you stand with Walmart workers and you will join a Black Friday action near you.
