Donate auction items to fund training for union women

WSLC-logo-NEW-color-250p(June 28, 2016) — Every year, the Women’s Committee of the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO holds a silent auction at the council’s convention. The proceeds fund scholarships for rank-and-file union women to attend leadership institutes and training.

The committee is asking WSLC friends and affiliates to donate union goods, services or monetary contributions for this worthwhile effort. Please send your donation to the WSLC, c/o April Sims, 321 16th Ave. S., Seattle, WA, 98144 by no later than Monday, July 11.

SIUWThe WSLC Women’s Committee plans to send three women to the 35th Annual Western Regional Summer Institute on Union Women 2016 (SIUW) in Los Angeles on Aug. 9-13. Sponsored by the AFL-CIO and the United Association for Labor Education, this is a week at UCLA in Los Angeles, California to honor, strengthen, and support women in the labor movement. The summer school offers a series of in-depth courses, workshops, solidarity and fun!

Your contributions to the Women’s Committee Silent Auction will help fund scholarships covering tuition, room and board, and travel expenses for the SIUW and for other leadership training. As always, the silent auction will be held during the Reception and Banquet at the WSLC 2016 Convention set for July 19-21 at the Coast Wenatchee Center Hotel and Convention Center.

If you have questions, please call April Sims at 206-281-8901.
