UW employees picketing Tuesday for fair wage increase, contract

uw-seiu925-wfse1488The following news advisory is from SEIU Local 925:

SEATTLE — University of Washington employees have been in negotiations for a new contract all summer, but believe that UW administrators are not bargaining in good faith as promised.

WHAT:  Employee pickets

WHO: UW employees represented by SEIU 925 and WFSE 1488

WHEN: Tuesday, Sept. 20, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

WHERE: UW Medical Center main entrance (1959 NE Pacific St, Seattle) as well as four other locations (Gerberding Hall, UW Tower, Harborview Medical Center, and Sand Point)

uw-seiu925-wfse1488-protestWHY: UW employees are outraged by UW administrators’ proposed 1% wage increase for UW staff (administrators gave themselves a 4% raise a few weeks ago).

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) 925 represents nearly 6,000 employees at the University of Washington; Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) 1488 represents 4,000 employees. For the first time, the two unions are bargaining a joint contract with the UW administration.
