WSLC’s Brown: Governor Inslee ‘has done the nation a service’

OLYMPIA (Aug. 23, 2019) — Larry Brown, President of the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, issued the following statement in response to Washington Gov. Jay Inslee’s announcement that he has ended his campaign for president and will seek a third term as governor:

“Jay Inslee has done the nation a service by elevating the issue of climate change in the presidential campaign, while also emphasizing the importance of protecting working people and labor standards as we transition to a clean economy.

“As governor, he has championed many of our issues — from making sure nurses and frontline hospital workers get proper rest breaks, to protecting public employees’ freedom to join together in unions. And he has worked effectively alongside Attorney General Bob Ferguson to defend the basic rights and freedom of Washington state residents from attacks by the Trump administration. But as always, the Washington State Labor Council will be guided by our affiliated unions in determining who we support in the 2020 governor’s race.”

The WSLC is the state’s largest union organization, representing some 600 affiliated union organizations with approximately 550,000 rank-and-file members. For more information, visit wslc.org.
